The Lodge

Nueces Canyon Lodge was developed to take advantage of the tremendous white wing and mourning dove concentrations that Central Texas offers. Texas Parks and Wildlife Magazine refers to the areas around Uvalde, Texas as the best counties in the state for dove hunting. And Nueces Canyon Lodge is ideally situated to take advantage of those opportunities. Located north of Uvalde on the Nueces River, we have access to prime hunting properties, offering more than 18,000 acres of sunflowers, sesame seed and milo fields. Other properties offer afternoon tank and pass shooting. Our facilities are immaculate and offer a pristine Hill Country setting and provides superb lodging. Our meals are expertly prepared and served and our guides keep in touch with local farmers for up to the minute bird reports in order to put you in the hottest spots to make each hunt thrilling and memorable. We also have access to mountain biking, jet skiing, clay shoots and fly fishing in the Nueces River, one of the finest fly fishing rivers in Texas. Nueces Canyon Lodge provides a superb hunting experience for your clients, as well as families and individuals.

Exotics

Axis - The Axis Deer is one of the most beautiful animals we have on the ranch. Native to India these animals have a striking reddish-brown coat, marked with very distinct white spots & a black dorsal stripe that runs down the back. White is also lined underneath the inside of the leg, belly, & underneath the throat. The Axis buck can be hard horned anytime of the year. The bucks usually have three tines that measure trophy quality in length anywhere from 27-36 inches tall. The bucks average around 35 inches high at their shoulders and weigh anywhere from 150-250 pounds. The does are much smaller & usually weigh anywhere from 75-125 pounds.The Axis meat is one of the best tasting venison you'll put in your mouth. They are grazers much like cattle & don't have the gamey taste like Whitetails. Axis usually do not store fat so the meat has no marble. The Axis steak has .06 grams of fat, 26 calories, and 13.9 mg cholesterol. In comparison, skinless chicken has .88 grams of fat, 34 calories, and 20.0 mg cholesterol. Lean beef has 1.76 grams of fat, 41 calories, and 16.86 mg cholesterol.

The Blackbuck Antelope is native to India & Pakistan. The female are tan in color and usually weigh 40-70 pounds while the males weigh 44-125 pounds. The mature males are black along the upper body with white around the rings of the eye, belly & inner legs. The horns on the Blackbuck are spiral shaped reaching 15-25 inches in length.

The Fallow Deer is of European descent. Fallows can be easily mistaken for other exotic do to their various colors. There are up to 7 colors, but most on the ranch are: white, spotted, chocolate, tan & roam. The buck weighs between 125-175 pounds and the doe about 65-100 pounds. The antlers are palmated with multiple points.

The Mouflon Sheep are relatively small animals that are native to the Mediterranean Islands of Corsica, Sardinia, Malta & Cyprus. The males usually stand 28-30 inches in height, while the ewes stand only 25-28. The male can weigh up to 120 pounds, while the ewes weigh up to 70 pounds. Both sexes are brown with white on their underside. The older rams have darker brown/black bodies with a very distinct white saddle across their backs. The mouflon horns have broad, curving horns that point forward with outward-turning tips. A trophy quality ram can range anywhere 26-30 inches length.

3:30 pm Depart for Kilpatrick Ranch for afternoon hunt.
8:30 pm to 10:00 pm Cocktails, appetizers and dinner at the Pavilions.

Second Day…..
TIME ACTIVITY
5:00 am Wake up knock.
5:30 am Continental breakfast. Coffee, orange juice, pastries, cereal and fresh fruits.
6:00 am Depart for Kilpatrick Ranch for morning hunt. (if needed)
10:30 am Return to Nueces Canyon Lodge.
11:00 am - 1:00 pm Lunch at Pavilions
3:30 pm Depart for Kilpatrick Ranch for afternoon hunt. (if needed)
8:30 pm. to 9:00 pm Cocktails, appetizers and dinner at the Pavilions.

Third Day…..
TIME ACTIVITY
8:00 am Country style breakfast at Pavilion.
9:30 am Depart for home.
